Wet areas and storage are located along the western wall and clad in a warm veneer finish. A small courtyard on the eastern boundary allows natural light to penetrate into the dining and living areas that otherwise have a southerly aspect.
We will work with the delightful textures in the existing dwelling in order to preserve its character and history, while inserting new life into its tired bones.

An existing, cosy two-bedroom terrace house located in Newtown was in need of some love. Located within a heritage conservation area, celebrated the existing character and history of the dwelling while inserting a modern and complementary addition to the rear.
The new works include an additional storey comprising two single bedrooms, a rumpus and bathroom, while extending the ground floor with greater connection to the rear garden (currently overgrown by pumpkins!)
A small courtyard introduces daylight into the otherwise south facing dwelling; playfully framing light, texture and plants.
Environmental Strategies
- Retained the front two bedrooms and adjacent hallway, despite significant structural and superficial cracking, in order to preserve the heritage significance of the terrace
- Existing bricks on site that have been demolished, are being cleaned and repurposed on site
- Concrete slab on ground will provide thermal mass
- New low water use soft landscaping
