Building Architecture for Sustainable Environments (BASE) is an architecture and design firm in the Illawarra. At BASE, we believe all building should be designed in the context of their location. We prioritise a thorough site analysis as the foundation needed to design not only beautiful homes, but buildings that require less energy to operate.
Through the design of the building, we nurture the ways a family thrives at home or a business hopes to grow. This is only possible by working closely with our clients to understand their needs and how they envisage using the space.
Our combination of experience brings architecture and landscape design for a cohesive and seamless experience from inside to out.
We believe each project is unique, for its combination of client, brief and context; these differences are exciting, and are reflected in the design and architecture. It is an opportunity to unite old and new; to design in a way that respects history and character while delivering something special for our clients.

Our Team
Jessica Bradley
Jess is a registered Architect in NSW. Naturally, as an architect, Jess has a passion for materials (including natural building materials), as well as detailing and documenting projects for high quality, resolved designs. Designs that are client specific and site responsive, long lasting and beautiful.
Prior to establishing BASE, Jess delivered high end projects at prestigious design based firm, Collins and Turner Architects in Sydney.
In 2020, Jess received a scholarship from the NSW Architects Registration Board, to conduct global research into ‘purpose-driven’ businesses founded on values and ethics rather than financial ambition. This has informed her work at BASE, where she interrogates modes of business and ethics in how she designs places that are values-aligned and useful, as well as utilising local trades and materials.
Jess has a history of trusting client-architect relationships which result in unique projects that are a reflection of the client’s (or family’s) needs, building architecture in which they thrive.
Jess is now raising a family of her own by the sea. Together they enjoy the close proximity of bushland and beach; the escarpment is particularly special.
